Malachite is found majorly in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Russia. Zambia, Australia, Mexico, and USA. Malachite is also an important ore of copper. Often grows in underground spaces where it fills caverns and crevices, producing distinctive botryoidal (grape-like) and stalactite formations. The layered bands and concentric rings, sometimes called "peacock's eye", come from subtle shifts in the environment during formation, so no two pieces are alike.
