Unique. Rare. Distinctive. One-of-a-kind. These are just a few words to describe this striking necklace by Navajo (Diné) silversmith Tommy Jackson. Composed of individually handcrafted sterling silver Navajo 'pearls' ranging from 3/4" to 1" in width. Hanging from a removable hook bail is an intricately stamped silver pendant, itself holding 17 cabochons of enchanting Morenci turquoise. The hook closure fastens to an additional piece of Morenci turquoise, adding even more color to this impressive necklace and pendant set.
Artist hallmark stamped on necklace and pendant.
Pendant: 3 1/4" x 2 1/2", Necklace: 11"
Morenci Turquoise comes from Southeastern Arizona, close to the New Mexico border. Perhaps its most unique feature is the pyrite matrix which runs through the stone. Pyrite, most commonly referred to as Fool's Gold, is a metallic mineral which winds its way through Morenci cabochons. When the stone is polished, the pyrite looks silver, which run like clear streams in a field of blue.
