Morenci Turquoise & Sterling Silver Dragonfly Pendant by Gary Custer
Navajo (Diné) silversmith Gary Custer has created this one-of-a-kind dragonfly pendant. Sterling silver and Morenci turquoise come together in this spectacular piece, perfect for revealing your playful side. Using a soft, porous stone called Tufa, Gary carves a mold. Sterling silver is poured into the mold to form the jewelry. Each piece is unique because the stone casts can only be used once. An invisible pendant loop is on the back.
Pendant: 3" x 2 1/4"
Morenci Turquoise comes from Southeastern Arizona, close to the New Mexico border. Perhaps its most unique feature is the pyrite matrix which runs through the stone. Pyrite, most commonly referred to as Fool's Gold, is a metallic mineral which winds its way through Morenci cabochons. When the stone is polished, the pyrite looks silver, which run like clear streams in a field of blue.
