Navajo Horsehair Pottery with Cutouts by Shirley Smith
The distinctive pattern in this pot is made by using hair from the tail and mane of a horse. The pottery is fired using a special technique that is both hazardous and time-consuming. After firing, the piece is rock polished, painted, and etched. This pot is an original, signed on the bottom by the Navajo potter.
