Born in Gallup, New Mexico, Elgin learned to silversmith helping his father and grandfather, both of whom made fine handcrafted jewelry. A proud father of 4 children who are learning the craft from him, Elgin creates his pieces by just letting the design take him to the end result.

Morenci turquoise comes from Southeastern Arizona, close to the New Mexico border. Perhaps its most unique feature is the pyrite matrix which runs through the stone. Pyrite, most commonly referred to as Fool’s Gold, is a metallic mineral which winds its way through Morenci cabochons. When the stone is polished, the pyrite looks silver, which run like clear streams in a field of blue.
